Putting some extra power and spin on the ball is a crucial element to Tiger - without it, you could easily lose a stroke per hole - and getting used to the Z-button is not something that casual gamers will do easily. On the GameCube, this is controlled with the Z-button, which is horribly suited to the task. The bigger problem, however, is generating extra power and spin, which often requires mashing one button as fast as possible in a very short period of time. The key mechanic in the game is pulling the analog stick back and forth to simulate your swing, which feels a bit awkward on the GameCube. Of course, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 wouldn't be anything if the actual golf wasn't fun, and while it's near-perfect on the Xbox and PS2, it's here that the GameCube controller kind of gets in the way of the fun.
